Ninety percent of the time the human race fails to impress me, more specifically American citizens. This became painfully apparent on our recent trip abroad which highlighted the lack of manners from Americans. I was actually quite embarrassed to be an American.
However, there are sometimes glimmers of hope from the human race. Every so often I am proven wrong. Today at the airport there was a gentleman wearing camoflauge, sitting quietly by himself at the boarding gate. Out of nowhere another man standing in line to board got out of line, walked over, shook the soldier's hand, and said "thank you". There was no other interaction, just a simple handshake and a thank you. In that brief moment I was proud of my fellow Americans, well....at least two of them.
